The historic Greater St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1900 in a small house with 9 members, 3 deacons and Rev. Sykes. Over the next 8 years there were 3 successors of leadership. In 1909, Rev. E.L. Lockett purchased the current site and constructed a new building. After a multitude of years had passed, ministries, services and membership positively increased with changes in leadership. The current brick and mortar as it stands today was completed in March 1967. GSPBC currently operates as a nonprofit organization providing a trichotomy experience to a multicultural diverse population. Our foundation was established in holiness and sanctification, that is being set apart for the boundless work the Lord has prepared for us. We were called to carry the vision to build a ministry after God’s own heart, reaching individuals in the community and beyond. Our ultimate goal is winning souls to Christ, laying hands on the sick and bringing deliverance to set the captives free. The Lord is preparing us to perform mighty and glorious works for Him as we move forward to develop new and innovative programs to enhance our ministry.
On September 22, 1993 the Lord blessed us with a new pastor, Fred Thomas III, a visionary and humble man with a goal to build the kingdom of God, and by his side our one and only, First Lady, Doris Thomas. Installation services were held for Pastor Thomas November 5, 1993 and God has abundantly blessed our organization . Under his current leadership, a drastic amount of improvements have been made and an increase in ministries are available to believers. He is a prominent shepherd and the numeric, financial and spiritual growth are evident in his flock. We are grateful to God for blessing and sustaining the church for 100+ years. GSPBC is tangible evidence of Matthew 5:10: “ I build this house upon a rock
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
It was truly an honor that you have chosen to worship with us this day. We are not sure if we are your “flavor”, but our prayer is that you consider becoming a part of our church family. The GSPBC saints welcome you to partake in our Christian experiences and we encourage you to be blessed!!
